McDonald's Takes the Blame for Obesity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

McDonalds Takes the Blame for Obesity - Essay ExampleThe following is an examination of Critical Concepts Experts blame the adverts targeting children to be responsible for do obesity. The most relevant concepts in the case against first food joints are their grocerying policies. Perhaps the aim is to cripple the allure junk food produces by means of adverts which are particularly appealing to children. However, Ronald McDonald in the same light as Joe Camel is a bit of a stretch. Attacking the marketing strategies of business entities to me amounts to clutching at a straw. There are rules that govern the world of production and marketing. In a situation where a product has production rights, the production company has the right to market it. In view of the above sentiments, McDonald should consider rebranding its image but not to exclude Ronald McDonald. Marketers, especially in France argue that compulsive ad inclusions such(prenominal) as, tucker out fruits daily, exercise, and drink a lot of water appeal more to customers than severe health warnings. For instance the caption, cigarette smoking is harmful to your health, did not reduce the second of smokers in Europe or America. Therefore, adding health messages as proposed by the French is a constructive move. When McDonald includes the health messages in its ads it will go a stride further to include healthy substitutes to its menu. Negative publicity led to drop in sales in McDonalds. This caused McDonald to add healthy food to their menu such as porridge and salad. The move led to a 90% positive turnaround in sales. It should be feelingd that the increased sales result from consumption of non-healthy foods such as burgers and fries. Some European nations in their fight against obesity push for a ban on fast food advertisements that target children. However, it is imperative to note that advertisements not enjoin to children may still influence them. In a situation, where bans on advertising dir ectly to children are in place such as in Norway, the food companies will still advertise for adults. Nevertheless, the bans are crucial because they eliminate at least one influence of obesity. Conforming to the ban is in any case a positive marketing strategy for McDonalds. Consumers will see their efforts in implement change, and this will retain their loyalty to their products as mentioned above. Problems facing McDonalds positive ad strategy. The state of obesity has not improved ever since the launch of positive ads by McDonalds. This is not the companys fault, but critics do not seem to think so. Governments and health regulatory institutions are up in arms against McDonalds. For instance, Prince Charles of England out rightly attributes obesity to McDonalds. In response to the above situation, McDonald responds just now like most companies in the food production industry. Self regulation in regard to advertisement is a common strategy where the company reduces adverts dire cted at children. In the case of fast foods, the company specifically cuts down on use of celebrities and cartoon characters in advertisements. McDonald, however, is not fully committed to this strategy. In the U.K, its dominant market is children under the age of sixteen, and it does not intend to lose this market. McDonald instead favors positive health messages to run alongside their advertisements. That way McDonald

With the availability of these procedures, it is easier to identify individuals. Therefore, disparate states are appealing to the citizens to add DNA to bio banks to ensure availability of such samples for use when issues requiring identification arise (Butler 93). There is a lot of criticism skirt this issue and lack of public knowledge on why contribution of DNA is necessary. Other individuals are bothered about the consequences that may arise because of the patrol having the DNA samples. However, there is little understanding of how much easier cases of paternity, genetic disorders, and criminal investigations would be, if people were impulsive to contribute their DNA freely. Despite the ethical issues raised, all individuals should volitionally contribute their DNA to bio banks to ease identification. According to Lotter, the chemical struct ure of DNA does not vary from one individual to another. However, the bases encoded in the chain appear in a unique arrangement in each individual. Identical twins are the only individuals with identical DNA profiles. Members of the same family show very remainder similarity and this similarity is the basis of familial matching. There are unique, but rare cases in society whereby unrelated individuals display close similarity. If individuals are willing to contribute DNA, paternity cases will be very easy. Advances in genomics were able to relate DNA profiles of a child to those of the parents. Such advances show that half of a childs DNA profile matches that of the mother while the other half matches that of the father. This is the case because, during conception, two cells, one from each parent, fuse. Each of the two fruitful cells carries 23 chromosomes contrary to the 46 carried by normal body cells. Fusion of these two cells, results to 46 chromosomes in a cell. This cell, gi ves rise to the offspring on multiplication. In society, there are several cases concerning paternity. Some fathers deny their responsibility, claiming they are not the real fathers of children. Other people will impersonate the real fathers of children for their selfish gain. DNA typing constantly provides reliable solutions to cases of this nature. According to Butler, if comparison of samples from the father and child reveal matches in DNA patterns, then this is proof of paternity (93). Several of children in society, previously denied the opportunity to know their real fathers, are benefiting from this technological advance. Such children are now entitled to rights and privileges from their parents that they previously did not enjoy. It is worthwhile for people to contribute DNA to ease the solving of paternity cases. Adopted children have been able to identify their real parents, and they no longer live in the world of nonreciprocal questions. Only in rare cases does DNA typin g fail in paternity cases. As Butler argues, another critical application of DNA compose is its use in criminology. There are traces of DNA on anything we handle (397-399). Police analyze all objects on the crime scene to obtain a DNA sample that on amplification is typed and therefore aids in investigations. Police should handle such objects with care, to minimize contamination of the samples, with DNA from their hands. Suspected criminals moldiness present DNA samples to the police. Police then compare their DNA profiles with the profile from the scene and if

Family Assessment and Substance Abuse Assignment

Family Assessment and Substance Abuse - Assignment ExampleViolence here endure be physical, verbal, or sexual. This can be attributed to the impaired reasoning state that a person assumes after using drugs. Drugs have been known to interfere with geniuss perception of things and so tend to think illogically and irrationally. Those who suffer here are spouses of drug addicts as well as their children. In auxiliary to this, the physical state of drug addicts is also professed. Psychologically, drug addicts are affected, as they appear mentally deranged (Thombs et. al., 1997. Their thinking and reasoning is impaired, and as a result, their decisions affect their families. The resultant effect of drug outcry in a family includes denial and keeping of that issue secretive. As a result, the family makes changes in the ways it deals with the substance abuse problem. Some of the rules that have been documented to exist in families where substance abuse is an issue include all family mem bers are encouraged not to feel the frightful effects that drug use cause a family member to do. These changes include emotional and behavioral changes. Children and spouses affected here do not talk close or express their emotions in public, but in case this happens, the reaction is always violent and abusive. In such families, there is lack of trust since many promises made are always cancelled or forgotten. This erodes the trust of family members, especially children who grow up with this notion. If anyone abuses drugs while expectant, then there are chances that they will charge birth to babies with low birth weight. In addition to this, babies born by addictive mothers suffer from withdrawal syndrome soon after birth or memorise fetal alcohol syndrome. Substance abuse... This essay stresses that organizations that are responsible for drug trafficking should be dismantled and their leaders arrested and prosecuted in international courts. However, this method has not been in force(p) as much, probably due to the high rate of corruption and presence of rogue law enforcers and top government officials who benefit from drug sales. Also, fundamental is the enhancement of policies that will control the sale of prescription drugs so that they are not abused. The government has put in place some acts and legislations that are aimed at arbitrary the vice. For example, the Drug abuse Control amendments of 1965. This was formed to act as a modification of the Food, drug, and cosmetics act. Through this act, some drugs were labeled as stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, required licenses, and control in terms of distribution and sales. The bureau of narcotics and dangerous drugs was also formed, and handles control of marijuana and narcotics, as well as other drugs. Finally yet importantly in control of substance abuse and addiction is the online counseling services that help drug users. This paper makes a conclusion that substance abuse is without a distr ust a major problem that has affected all and sundry in the world, be it directly or indirectly. Even though there are measures in place to curb this problem, it is evident that a lot more has to be done if total eradication is to be achieved. This will bring normalcy to families and the nightclub as whole.

Automating computer usual processes Essay Example for Free

Automating ready reckoner usual processes EssayNowadays, al just nearly all kinds of establishments are relying on computers for automating their usual processes. Most of the manual frames in offices are replaced by the automated transcriptions which use computer technology. Moreover, computers look at similarly diminished the total manual grows and the effectiveness of employees has also increased because of the dependence of establishments on computer technology. It helps also to perform the routine business tasks much quicker compared to the manual way of doing things. Computer nowadays is no longer considered a luxury scarce rather a necessity with the emergence of education technology 1 We are in the so-called reading age, and every transaction at every phase of the establishments depends on modern computing. As observed, there are already many manual schemes that are being replaced by the computerized ones. Some of these are the payroll, sales and supervise, p oint of sale, enrollment, grading, library, and former(a) related bodys.. Integration with the people in the society is in demand for progress. The relation field of Information Technology concerns the use of computer-based study carcass to convert, process, protect, share, store, transmits and retrieve information. Technologies have brought us much advances on personal computer, to build new industries and change the lifestyle of each individual. These advances became more powerful and more productive for simultaneous growth in society and industries. Using Internet is one of the medium of todays communication, people easily connect in the current events in their community and even outside their places and acquire necessary information in just a short period of time. 2As the saying goes, naught is permanent than change so as with Information Technology. This field bequeath continue to prosper and continue to help change lives by improving it. Although most people, especially i n the Philippines still prefer the old ways or manual transactions, the future Filipino generations will eventually embrace change and non merely that, but also be the one to provide change through the future students and graduates that will courageously take this field.Every bit of information is now considered as a powerful tool hence it should be used and managed with the utmost caution. This mere reason prompts many establishments to produce their own systemthat will protect information. The Bicol Consortium for Health inquiry and Development (BCHRD) was established to address the existing health condition in the Bicol region. It is a coordinating system involving various psychiatric hospitals in the region with interest in health query. The BCHRD was created upon the partnership with Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS), Regional Development Council (RDC) with the particle institutions of Department of Health (DOH) ,Bicol Regional and Training And Teaching Hospital(BRTTH), Commision on Higher Education (CHED) , Bicol University (BU), Catanduanes State University (CSU), University of Saint Anthony, Ago Medical and Educational Center (AMEC), Atedeo de Naga, University of Nueva Caseres, Camarines tire Polytechnic Colleges, Aquinas University of Legazpi (AUl), Department of intelligence and Technology (DOST), Bicol Medical Center, Partido State University (PSU) .Universidad de Santa Isabel. The existing health condition in the region necessities the establishment of a substantive health research and development (RD) coordinating system involving various institution in the region with interest in health research. Putting them together to work on consortium arrangement will promote complementation, thereby increase the synergy despite limited resources for RD undertakings. The Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development (BCHRD) was accordingly established to address the afore mentioned concerns. The primarily goal and objective of BCHRD is to institute/strengthen the system collaboration in Bicol to develop and enhance the capacity of research institution within the region which have interest and engage in health related researches, as a strategy to improve the health condition of Bicolanos specifically the consortium aims to (a) Undertake and/or spearhead health related Research and Development (RD) activities (b) Establish a collaborative system for effective sharing and custom of physical, financial and manpower resources among member-institution as well encourage the active involvement of non-members that will fave the way for expanding the membership of consortium(c) Promote an effective collaboration and symmetric working relationship between among member-institutions in the conduct of researches in health, nutrition related fields (d) Encourage, generate and provide monetary funds for health related researches in accordance with the health and nutrition priorityareas/sectors indicated in the pla ns of the Regional Development Council (RDC) and the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) (e) Develop the capability in manpower, facilities and other infrastructure for health and nutrition and other related researches (f) Effectively promote the proper utilization of health research findings (g) Serve as modify house for all health related researches (h) Establish linkages/network within and outside the region and (i) Institute a mechanism and implement strategies for a preserve visibility of the consortium and ensure a long-term viability of the consortium. Monitoring system is not just used in the field of industry it has also a very significant role in improving the quality of education in the country (Philippines).Once this technological approach is implemented a across-the-board assurance that the aimed quality of educational system will be able to reach its peak of being more organized and well improved system In terms of paper works, these two types of an xiety system can easily manage the projects through having an Proposal observe system. Archiving system refers to the process of woful data through an automated storage device that helps the people to access the data easily. Before, an archival record was identified with manuscripts or with written records. Years passed by, archival record refers to recorded information, specifically in paper-based transforming it to automated form method. Implementing an archiving system of records can do task of organizing, monitoring and easy generation of reports. On the other hand, all the Research proposal that are pending, denied or approve must be monitored in order to ease the different operations and functions of organizations. In this study, monitoring system for the research proposal of the institution is the most needed to work to. This system updates the current status of the research project. In addition, monitoring system has a significant role in improving the quality of the implem ented projects to be able to reach its goal. Because of its function, they are having problems in a certain field. They seem to have problems in the management of projects from time to time. In addition, the increasing burden of creating and maintaining the archive of projects. Their file storage is full of projects making it a burden when finding a needed project. This study aimed to create a system for the Bicol Consortium forHealth Research and Development. It covered the storing and updating of projects that are processed in the department and also uploading projects in the system that can be retrieved easily.Statement of objectiveGeneral ObjectivesThis study aims to develop a research proposal and monitoring management system for the Bicol Consortium for Health Research and Development.Specific Objectives1.) To create a system that will facilitate research proposal and monitor status for approval.2.) To develop a monitoring system for all ongoing researches.3.) Therapeutic Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest Essay Example for Free

Therapeutic Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest EssayCardiac charm is considered as the prime app arent motion of sudden deaths in the modern world, cl withdrawing tens of thousands of lives globally each year (http//www.nationmaster.com/ graph/mor_car_arr-mortality-cardiac- baulk). It has been determined that survival rates after cardiac arrest are very low, due to consequent ventricular fibrillation that immediately results in zero cardiac output and death within a a couple of(prenominal) transactions (http//www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Ventricular-fibrillation). During cardiac arrest, oxygen flow in the brain in significantly affected and brain damage may possibly take place if no emergency preaching is given as soon as possible. Emergency intervention of cardiac arrest generally involves manual artificial alive to facilitate oxygen circulation to the brain, as well as chemical and electrical induction of the heart to reinstate its normal beating. Such emergency proc edures mainly aim to provide a way to reoxygenate the brain and to save it from further irreversible damage. Consequently, reoxygenation also generates free radicals that are responsible in creating a post-resuscitation syndrome, which is characterized by gangrene of different tissues of the patient of.The observation that tissues survive at particular hypothermic settings has been evaluated as a promising emergency treatment for cardiac arrest (http//www.rnweb.com/rnweb/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=158218). Hypothermia involves subjecting the corpse of an individual in a temperature that is below the normal physiologic temperature. The effect of hypothermia in protecting the brain from severe and irreversible damage during the non-oxygenated state of cardiac arrest is currently being evaluated, after successful results in dog models. Several investigations dumbfound been conducted on the direct and immediate positive effect of hypothermia in cardiac arrest patients. A prospect ive clinical trial involving the use mild resuscitative cerebral hypothermia in 27 cardiac arrest patients for at least 24 hours showed that hypothermia treatment is reliable and safe (Zeiner et al., 2000). The procedure involved cooling of the entire body, including the head, resulting in a lowering of body temperature within 62 minutes after commencement of hypothermia treatment. It is interesting to note that no further complications associated with the cardiac arrest were observed after the application of hypothermia treatment. In a separate investigation, 55% of cardiac arrest patients treated with hypothermia was observed to show positive responses to the treatment, as well as a decrease in the mortality rate 6 months after hypothermia treatment, suggesting that hypothermia treatment favors the prevents deleterious brain damage and death among cardiac arrest patients (HACASG, 2002).However, there are also certain issues with regards to the application of hypothermia in cardiac arrest patients that remains unclear and doubtful. One of these includes the inclusion and exclusion criteria that will determine whether a particular patient will benefit from such treatment (Skowronski, 2005). This comment is mainly based on the need for personalized treatment of patients because of the recent observation of inter-individual variations in the response to specific treatments.Such observation explains problematic yet significant differences that should be addressed during medication, diagnosis and testing of patients for any type of illness. With regards to cardiac arrest emergency treatments, it is of prime importance that a patients unique physiological, genetic, metabolic and cardiac profile be determined first before subjecting him to hypothermic conditions. However, this profiling may also pose to be a hindrance during emergency treatment because the survival of the cardiac arrest patient mainly depends on the speed of administration of the treatment to the pa tient.Specific risks have already been identified to be associated with hypothermia treatment of cardiac arrest patients (http//www.sca-aware.org/sca-treatment.phptreatment3). The exposure of the patient to cold temperatures at a prolonged duration may cause bleeding or hemorrhage in specific organs of the patients because the cold temperature slows down the blot clotting capability of the platelets. In addition, a cardiac patient treated with hypothermia may suffer from infection because the immune system is also inhibited by prolonged cold temperatures. An alternative treatment that is parallel to hypothermia has been proposed to be as effective as hypothermia, and possibly much safer than the more radical hypothermic exposure of the cardiac patient to low temperature levels. The alternative treatment involves intravenous introduction of ice-cold fluid to the patient using automated cooling equipment (Bernard, 2005). Such settings provide the healthcare personnel complete control over the temperature of the intravenous fluid, which plays a vital role in the emergency treatment of the cardiac arrest patients.Until sufficient clinical investigatory information has been collected from comprehensive and comparative degree studies on the risks and benefits of hypothermia treatment on cardiac arrest patients, it is imperative that healthcare personnel be cautious in administering such rapid and radical treatment to cardiac arrest patients. There have been active requests from the medical research field that such investigations will provide a better understanding of the mechanisms and pathophysiological routes that are involved in the exposure of the body, most specifically the brain and the rest of the central nervous system, to cold temperature during those critical non-oxygenated states (Bernard, 2004).ReferencesBernard (2004) Therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac arrest Hypothermia is now standard care for some types of cardiac arrest.
